John Murphy is an independent curator based in Sydney who specializes in the interpretation of fine art, architectural and archaeological projects.
He has curated major exhibitions at the Museum of Sydney, Queensland Art Gallery, Sydney Opera House and State Library of NSW, and has prepared award-winning interpretations of significant archaeological locations including Dawes Point, Sydney. He has also worked with architectural firms to create heritage installations and to commission public art.
Previously a senior curator for the Mitchell Library, John Murphy has a secure knowledge of Australian cultural history and extensive experience in the curatorship of exhibitions and the management of pictorial and manuscript collections. He lectures at the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW in art history and theory.
